Save Our Elk

A new website has been developed by petitioners who are attempting to get the truth out about wolves, Save Our Elk [here]. Their goal is to get concerned Idaho citizens to sign the anti-wolf ballot initiative.

Wolves kill anything, but their preferred targets are elk.

Wolves are reproducing at a rate of 30% per year and in Idaho currently number well over 1,000!

Each wolf kills an average of two elk a month for food, and another two per month for sport kill!

Do the math: We are loosing between 24,000 to 48,000 animals a year, a rate increasing by 30% a year!

Right now the Idaho elk calf-to-cow-ratio is at the lowest level in recorded history.

The wolves are killing out the future of our game herds.

When the elk herds are gone, these killer wolves will still kill, except they will change targets.

one of the biggest reasons the elk to calf ratio is where it is today is hunters keep shooting the big old males. leaving nothing but old maid cows to wallow around. Wolves prefer the weak , killing them off leaves more vegetation for the geneticly stronger and provides vital genetic strengthing since we hunters feel its important to shoot the strongest which is detrimental to the species Anyone ever read darwins theory…yeah its true.

No one has mentioned how wolves have allowed vital new vegetation to sprout in stream beds because its kept the Elk on there toes, recent population reports a steady population of Elk in the Salmon clear water area despite the presence of a wolf population. For the past nearly 70 years not a single shoot of new trees has survived in a stream bed area because they get eaten…now for the first time we are seeing new sprouts taking root and surviving.

Why? because the Wolf keeps the Elk on its toes, forcing it to not wallow in the stream like a bloated cow but to be weary and majestic and mysterious…like it should be.

..the thing that is happening now is the animals are more wary and harder to hunt…Especially for you who like to drive down a road in your SUV and shoot at will from the side of the road.

I am hopeful of protective status being reenlisted on this animal because it is clear that much of the Sportsman population of Idaho have no interest in there mind about true ecological management and are only concerned about the ‘buck’

Geez Louise, Nathan, everything you know is wrong.

Old maid cows wallowing around?!?!

Basic Biology I. A male can impregnate hundreds of females, whereas a female can bear the young of only one male. Killing off 99% of the males has zero effect on population growth, whereas hunting females has immediate and serious effect.

That’s why game managers issue tags for males, but rarely tags for females (unless they wish to diminish populations).

It’s not hunters’ choice, Nathan. There are rules and regulations!!!!!!!!

Wolves do not prefer weak prey. They prefer fat females. Wolves kill elk cows for sport. That has immediate and serious impact on elk populations.

Everything else you wrote is equally stupid, proving once again that wolf-lovers are complete morons. Go back to the 3rd grade and learn English spelling and grammar before you write to this blog again, Nathan. Why portray yourself as a dimwit? You might as well hang a sign around your neck that says Idiot in Residence.

Could you e-mail me the different addresses of our congressmen, senators, and any legislatures, including the governor, where people can write to to save the elk, and get the Canadian Grey Wolf out of Idaho.

Wheat,

I don’t have that info readily available. Please visit Save Our Elk [here]. They are Idaho-based.
