Base camp and ICP are located at the Intermountain Fairgrounds in McArthur, CA. Red Flag Warning issued for tonight beginning at 2300 hours and ending tomorrow at 1100 hours, for dry lightning and gusty winds. The 5 acre spot fire in front of the Russel Fire continues with mop up and is located in rugged terrain. More accurate mapping from FOBS. Tonight’s IR will be done utilizing the DOD Drone. All forward progress of all fires has been stopped. Fire suppression repair has begun. The complex includes 9 fires (1 uncontained): Uncontained fire is Russel Fire, 110 acres, 80%.

Numerous fires caused by lightning. Various spot fires continue to be extinguished as well as new fires within the Russel Complex. Dozer lines and hand lines continue to be established around the Russel Fire. At the present time, all fires are staffed or contained. Weather calls for the possibility of additional thunderstorms and dry lightning. Because of the quantity of fire apparatus on the roadway we ask the public to be extra cautious when traveling the local roadways during this fire activity.

CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit is lead agency. The fire is 1 of 15 lightning sparked fires in the Bieber area of Lassen County. Since Saturday July 24 there have been over 3,500 lightning strikes across northeast California. As a result 33 confirmed fires have sparked in CAL FIRE jurisdiction. The US Forest Service reports another 78 lightning sparked fires for 115 acres and the Bureau of Land Management has another 19 fires for 6 acres. The Russel Fire is the largest. A Red Flag Warning for dry thunderstorms continues for the area through this morning.
