Firefighters continue making progress constructing fire line and have completed a contingency line to the east. Last night’s burning operation was successful in mitigating potential fire hazards in the eastern portion of the fire. Firefighters are patrolling for smoke and extinguishing smoldering fires. The fire continues to threaten critical power lines from the Colgate Hydroelectric plant.

A community meeting was held at the Dobbins-Oregon House Community Center off of Marysville Road at noon today. Commanders are evaluating the current situation to identify when evacuated residents will be able to return to their homes. Residents returning home should be prepared to immediately evacuate if conditions warrant additional evacuations. The powerline supplying the North Sacramento County area which includes City of Sacramento, Beale AFB, and Yuba City has been restored.

Open fire line remains on the NE side (Yuba Co.) and the E side of the fire (Nevada Co.).

Voluntary evacuations remain in effect for portions of the community of Dobbins. There are mandatory evacuations and road closures for Providence Rd, Candlewood Way, Yuba Nevada Road, Lake Francis Rd, Halvey Rd, Frank Harding Way, Colgate Tunnel Ln, Road 1052, Canyon View, and a portion of Marysville Rd east of Lake Francis Rd. An evacuation shelter has been set up at the Dobbins-Oregon House Community Center. Nevada County Voluntary evacuations are in effect for Troost Trail.

Fire investigators have confirmed the initial fire was started by a bird into a powerline, but another fire in the area remains under investigation.

The fire jumped the Yuba River on Saturday August 15, 2009, and is established in timber and steep rocky terrain. Firefighters made excellent progress last night constructing fire line and conducting firing operations. Open fire line remains on the NE side (Yuba Co.) and the E side of the fire (Nevada Co.).

The fire has jumped the Yuba River and in now burning in the French Corral area. There is an immediate threat to Colgate Powerhouse and transmission lines. Four major powerlines and three powerhouses that produce 300 Megawatts of power remain de-energized.
