Congressman Greg Walden On Forest Health

Greg Walden represents Oregon’s 2nd District in the U.S. House. He is the author and principal sponsor of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act (2003).

He has spoken in favor of fuels management, forest thinning, and the protection of forests from catastrophic fire numerous times on the House floor. The following YouTube videos of a speech he gave are somewhat dated (October 17, 2007) but the message is still critically important.

He also spoke in support of the Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement Act of 2008 [here]. The FLAME Act was passed by the House but died in the Senate.

Enjoy Walden while you may, for the 2010 Census is upon us, what with the White House claiming that for themselves, and a fight brewing over who gets to cook those books. It is rumored Oregon will have gained enough folks to have a 6th Congressman, and that will mean redistricting the whole of the State. And that will be done by Democrats. Ms. Brown will Gerrymander the deal, as did her two predecessors, and you will rest assured the end result will have a portion of at least 4 of the Congressional Districts pointed at downtown Portland like spears, just to claim a majority of pinko D’s in each.

Walden is from Hood River, and I will bet a dime to a donut that Hood River gets put into the Liberal column and will either go into the Schrader or Blumenhauer Districts. Brown will redistrict Walden right out of his home. Kate Brown will gerrymander all of Eastern Oregon into a District with more Democrats than it now has by dipping into aging Jackson and Josephine counties, and those added to Deschutes, will disenfranchise the Eastern Oregon natural resource based economy and voters…That is her job. That is why she ran for the job. That, and to bring her vast knowledge and concern for natural resource issues to the State Land Board. I don’t know if she will traipse around the State selling the Al Gore Global Calamity Act or not, but she will not be a friend of the Eastern half of the State.

I think Rep. Walden is representative of Eastern Oregon and he is the most progressive capitalist in action in Oregon. If they redistrict him, whatever district he would be in that includes his home will have a fight for their lives.

For all the bluster of those in the Valley, the one who has brought programs and investments to Oregon in terms of jobs and renewable energy has been Rep. Walden. He actively continues to promote the private sector while engaged in what most call being “progressive” but rarely live up to.

If you mean favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods: a progressive politician; progressive business leadership, then you need to look to Eastern Oregon’s Rep. Walden rather than any politician in the Valley.
