Pipeline developers to pay for habitat projects

Developers of a natural gas pipeline from Wyoming to Oregon are donating $22 million over the next 10 years to protect wildlife habitat along the route.
The Oregon Natural Desert Association and Western Watersheds Project announced Thursday that El Paso Corp. has joined them in establishing a fund to restore and preserve habitat for species such as sage grouse, pronghorn and pygmy rabbits.
Potential projects would include retiring federal grazing permits, removing fences and restoring springs.
El Paso will also join in a fund to improve habitat on the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in Oregon and the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge in Nevada.
