Low targets, goals dropped: Copenhagen ends in failure

by John Vidal, Allegra Stratton and Suzanne Goldenberg, guardian.co.uk, 19 December 2009 [here]

The UN climate summit reached a weak outline of a global agreement in Copenhagen tonight, falling far short of what Britain and many poor countries were seeking and leaving months of tough negotiations to come.

After eight draft texts and all-day talks between 115 world leaders, it was left to Barack Obama and Wen Jiabao, the Chinese premier, to broker a political agreement. The so-called Copenhagen accord “recognises” the scientific case for keeping temperature rises to no more than 2C but does not contain commitments to emissions reductions to achieve that goal.

American officials spun the deal as a “meaningful agreement”, but even Obama said: “This progress is not enough.” …

Obama cast his trip as a sign of renewed US global leadership: “The time has come for us to get off the sidelines and shape the future that we seek; that is why I came to Copenhagen.”

But the US president also said he would not be staying for the final vote “because of weather constraints in Washington”. … [more]

There were some other positive signs from Copenhagen, too.

First, God was watching and the Gore Effect was in full force. Protesters had to fight Global Warming in the freezing cold, and Obama couldn’t come home fast enough because the airports were snowed in stateside.

Other good news from Copenhagen concerned Al Gore, the International Environmental Movement, and the World Wildlife Fund.

Gore skipped out on a planned event he was to headline, refused interviews, and got thrown under the bus by a scientist to the amusement of journalists everywhere. He was fully exposed as a greedy, lardy, self-important buffoon for all to see. The story of the Emperor with no clothes came out of Denmark, and that’s how Al Gore came out, too. For everyone to see.

The Enviros had bad manners, got bad press, and were irrelevant at their own “World’s Most Important” party. This event wouldn’t have happened except for them, and they were left out in the cold. Literally. At a Global Warming convention. See:

The World Wildlife Fund pays its president nearly $500,000 a year (Budd-Falen 2009), sent 130 unexpectedly unseated delegates to Copenhagen (an estimated 2.3 polar bears died from all the CO2 they used), and got global heat for abusing their children in a propaganda video:

Plus, there is rampant speculation that this event may have killed cap-and-tax once and for all.

Hopefully, scientists and journalists will have learned by this foray into Apocalyptic Predictions, and leave that nonsense to the Governments and Religions (who have long-standing and rightful ownership to this particular branch of scam and delusions), while they try to clean and repair their tarnished images.

Hooray for Copenhagen! A brighter day may be dawning!
