From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia [here]

Tre Arrow, (born Michael James Scarpitti in 1974), a Florida native, is an environmental activist and politician who gained prominence in the U.S. state of Oregon in the late 1990s.

Arrow was extradited from Canada to Portland Oregon in the United States Government on February 29, 2008 to face charges of arson and conspiracy claimed by the Earth Liberation Front (ELF).

Arrow is wanted by the FBI in connection with the April 15, 2001 arson at Ross Island Sand and Gravel in Portland. Three trucks were damaged in the amount of $200,000. The Earth Liberation Front (ELF) claimed this fire via a written communique. The U.S. Department of Justice says it considers ELF to be the worst “domestic terrorism group.”

Another arson occurred a month later at Ray Schoppert Logging Company in Estacada, Oregon, on June 1, 2001. Two logging trucks and a front loader were damaged, resulting in $50,000 worth of damage. The ELF did not claim responsibility, but the explosions were similarly created by milk jugs filled with gasoline, and a fuse made from incense and a pack of matches.

Tre Arrow back in Portland and due in court Monday [here]

Portland Tribune, AM 860 KPAM, Feb 29, 2008, Updated 4.1 hours ago (10 Reader comments)

Environmental activist Tre Arrow is back in the United States and is due in federal court in Portland on Monday. He is facing 14 counts, including arson.

An indictment accuses Arrow of taking part in the destruction by fire of several concrete mixing trucks at Ross Island Sand and Gravel Company in April of 2001. He is accused in the similar destruction of logging trucks at Schoppert Logging Company in Eagle Creek in June of 2001.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Peifer said Arrow was flown to Portland from Canada, where he had been in custody since March of 2004. He is due in court Monday for arraignment.

“Everyone’s obviously relieved that we can proceed to resolve this case,” Peifer said.

Arrow was first indicted in 2002 and was on the run until March 13, 2004 when he was arrested in Victoria, British Columbia on local charges of shoplifting, assault and obstructing a police officer. He pleaded guilty to those charges. He unsuccessfully sought asylum and refugee status in Canada as a political prisoner.

Three other defendants in Arrow’s case pleaded guilty to arson charges and served 41-month federal prison terms.

Tre Arrow back to face Oregon arson charges [here]

Accused eco-saboteur Tre Arrow, who fought extradition from Canada for nearly four years, is heading back to Portland to stand trial for a pair of arsons nearly seven years ago, his attorney confirmed this afternoon.

“He’s headed back, I just don’t know when,” said Paul Loney, one of two lawyers retained by Arrow’s family. Arrow stands accused in the spring 2001 fire bombings of logging trucks on the shoulder of Mount Hood and cement trucks at Portland’s Ross Island Sand & Gravel.

Arrow is expected to reach Portland by this evening and will be arraigned on Monday.

Born Michael Scarpitti, Arrow became a flamboyant environmental activist and one-time congressional candidate. Authorities claim he is the mastermind behind the two fire bombings. He was indicted for both in 2001. Read the indictment [here]
